The Department of Dentistry and Oral Health at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for one or more positions as Assistant Professor or Tenure Track Assistant Professor with appointment from September 1st, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position(s) are fixed-term full-time positions, four years as Assistant Professor and up to six years as Tenure Track Assistant Professor.

This is an open call for applicants from any discipline within dentistry and other related fields of relevance for research and teaching of students in orofacial educations. Examples of disciplines include but are not limited to periodontology, prosthodontics, orthodontics, pedodontics, endodontics, oral medicine and oral surgery.

As Assistant Professor or Tenure Track Assistant Professor, you will be employed at an internationally recognised department, where we conduct research on oral health and disease in the teeth, mouth and jaws. We offer an inspiring international research environment with specialised research laboratories, modern clinical facilities and advanced digital equipment throughout the department. Our degree programmes cover the orofacial team for societal healthcare services, divided into three professions: dentist, dental hygienist, and clinical dental technician. We create synergy between our degree programmes and educate students in prevention and treatment of disease and health promotion among the population. The Department has around 300 staff and 700 students. Our research and educational activities focus on orofacial health as an integral part of general health. Your job responsibilities

Your primary tasks will be research and research-based teaching. You will teach and supervise students at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, and you will contribute to the development of the department through research of the highest international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues. The position of Assistant Professor is a career development position in which you will receive supervision and pedagogical upgrading.

Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Independent research of high international quality, including publications in top international journals.
  • Teaching, guidance and examination of Bachelor’s and Master's degree students, as well as possibly co-supervision of PhD students.
  • Attracting external research funding.

You will report to the Head of Section of the relevant area.

Your competences

You have independent research-related qualifications at a high international level, and potential to become a skilled group leader. In addition, you are a clear communicator with experience in supervision and teaching at Bachelor’s and/or Master’s level. Experience from a stay or employment at an internationally recognised research institution is considered an advantage

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish within 4 years, and Aarhus University arranges Danish teaching.

The process

The tenure track position starts out with appointment as assistant professor with a view to permanent employment as an associated professor.

Permanent tenure as an associate professor is conditional upon you being assessed as qualified as such no later than 6 months before the expected transition to associate professor at the latest. In order to be assessed as qualified for an associate professor position, you must meet these academic criteria.

You will be appointed a supervisor by Head of Department and evaluation meetings will take place at least every half year.

Appointment as assistant professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
For an applicant to qualify for a tenure track position, these criteria must be met in addition to the requirements described in the job advertisement.

  • Appointment as an assistant professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level.

  • The appointment is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne).
  • Remuneration is in accordance with the above, and the Salary agreement catalogue for staff at Health.
  • The yearly base salary for a fulltime assistant professor is between DKK 484.214,84 and DKK 538.720,20 depending on the years of working experience after achieved MSc degree. The base salary includes a position related supplement and pension (17.1 %). Additional supplement(s) for special qualifications can be negotiated. Authorisation supplement(s) will be granted, if relevant for the position. Your local eligible trade union representative at Aarhus University negotiates your salary on your behalf.
  • Researchers recruited from abroad are offered a special researcher tax scheme with a lower tax rate.
